Last week, Montgomery County Councilmembers held a Town Hall in Kensington to discuss the proposed More Housing N.O.W. plan. The primary strategy to increase the housing supply is to convert highly vacant commercial properties for residential use. This would be done along transit corridors with a requirement that 15% of the housing will serve the local workforce.
Residents that attended the Town Hall had questions around the definition of “workforce” to which the response was a family that makes less than $147,000 combined income. They questioned how we ensure that the next buyer meets those qualifications. There were also concerns about the housing actually being affordable, and if the County infrastructure has the capacity to serve this influx of residents.
