Your host of Stories in Time at Home, Ellouise Schoettler has guest Jessica Robinson. Jessica is the founder of Better Said Than Done and the Producer for the Women’s Storytelling Festival. Jessica has been a storyteller for 14 years and a show producer for 10 years. Better Said Than Done produces themed, true, personal storytelling shows throughout Northern Virginia and beyond, featuring experienced performers from the community of spoken word storytellers. Do to all the talk she had heard from other women Storytellers, Jessica decided to produce a Women’s Storytelling Festival. As she wrote in her article Why Women Need A Festival, “Not to cut men out, just to raise women up. Thus, the concept for the first Women’s Storytelling Festival was born.” This festival highlighted 36 Women Storytellers including your own host Ellouise Schoettler.
Jessica’s goal is to give women a bigger stage and audience. Even thou there are more women Storytellers than men. Men Storytellers get to be in the spotlight more and are featured more on bigger stages, an inequality Jessica wanted to help. At the Women’s Storytelling Festival women feel heard and have a safe space to perform where they are comfortable to discuss hard topics women face such as Sexual, Physical, or Emotional Abuse, Periods, Menopause, Self-Image, Pregnancy, Children, Nursing…Watch this episode and learn about this empowering, uplifting Women’s Storytelling Festival and how you can participate next year or get involved with the monthly storytelling shows through Better Said Than Done!
