The Village of Friendship Heights hosted a talk on the art of making Chinese porcelain – known as Yue ware – in honor of Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month. Dr. Michael Lu, a local collector of the art, led the discussion along with hosts from the U.S. Asian Cultural Academy which is based in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Attendees got to view an exhibition of Yue ware, featuring pieces by acclaimed ceramist, Chen Pengfei. The signature characteristic of this ancient stoneware is celadon glazing that is typically olive or brownish green in color. Classic Chinese symbols like dragons are often used.
