Girls’ flag football kicks off today, September 4th, for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). This pilot program, in partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour, includes teams at all 25 MCPS high schools. The partnership has provided grant funding for equipment, coaching stipends, transportation, awards, and of course, Under Armour uniforms.
Girls’ flag football is now at four Maryland school districts: Baltimore City Public Schools, Washington County Public Schools, Frederick County Public Schools, and Montgomery County Public Schools. It will also be an Olympic sport at the 2028 games in Los Angeles, California.
MMC-TV recently interviewed local high-school standout Sofia Antonioli about her extracurriculars, including Board Member at the League of Women Voters’ of Montgomery County and member of the Walt Whitman High School Girls’ Flag Football team. Watch her remarks below about this “empowering” sport.
