On the premiere episode of MMC’s newest program “Solutions,” host Cheryl Hawkins sits down with Amy Javaid and Eddy Ameen of A Wider Circle.
The vision of A Wider Circle is a world without poverty, where people have what they need to thrive. They have a number of programs to help them achieve this mission including Essential Support, Career Support, Neighborhood Partnerships, Partnerships to Independence and Advocacy.
Amy Javaid is the President and CEO of A Wider Circle and is the guest for the first half of the show. The second half of the show we hear from Eddy Ameen who is the Chief Program Officer of the organization.
The mission of A Wider Circle is to advance equity in the greater Washington, DC region by fostering the exchange of goods, skills, and connections from neighbor to neighbor, and by engaging in advocacy to address the root causes of poverty.
Everyone is welcome at A Wider Circle; there are no eligibility or referral requirements. Their “no wrong door” approach ensures that everyone who comes in is met with compassion and served in a dignified and respectful environment. They meet each person they serve where they are — identifying challenges, providing comprehensive support, and pursuing solutions together.
This holistic approach paves the way to financial self-sufficiency, walking alongside each individual and family they serve to work toward a common goal — ending poverty.
