Host of Pick Yourself Up, Assegid Habtewold strongly believes that everyone has greatness to tap into and guest Sylvia Baffour strongly believes that we live in relations to other people. Her book, I Dare You To Care is about Emotional Intelligence that helps with strategies for people to figure out how to be more inspirational/influential in order to really achieve remarkable growth personally and professionally. Sylvia tells us that Emotional Intelligence isn’t about being soft/nice. It is about a skill to engage in life, to manage what we are doing with how we feel. Bottomline…are you using your emotions to work for you or against you and do you care the impact your emotions are having on you and the people around you?
There is many males in different cultures who are taught not to show emotions. Sylvia says, “If you don’t care, you are probably not showing your emotions to your benefit.” If your ability to understand yourself, manage your own emotions, and manage the impact on people around you is a skill set that helps with your people skills, ability to work well with the team, and be inspirational to others. Companies hire for technical skills, know how, and IQ, but fire for no emotional intelligence. You need to care about the company culture, be energized, be seen, be heard, and be valued.
