On the latest episode of Housecall with Dr. David Doman he welcomes Dr. Yazdan Mirzanejad, Infectious Diseases Specialist and Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, The University of British Columbia, Vancouver British Columbia- Canada. Dr. Mirzanejad tells us about the vast difference Canada took compared to the United States in managing the challenges created by COVID-19. To start with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shut down parts of Canada’s economy and boosted spending on emergency relief programs to fight the coronavirus. Canada and the U.S. agreed to close our shared borders in March which was extremely beneficial to slowing the spread of COVID-19. Canada was also able to increase testing quicker than the United States, enabling it to better isolate the sick, trace contacts and limit spread. Learn about the the tremendous comparison to the importance of contact tracing, testing and PPE and how having it readily available is crucial to fighting the spread of COVID-19.
Canadians can’t comprehend how the prosperous United States with all the knowledge and science is politicizing wearing masks instead of saving lives. Canadian leaders wear mask to set an example and Canada has a unified national healthcare system, which is hard for the U.S. to imagine. That would be beneficial and a lot more manageable then our local run healthcare system. Dr. Mirzanejad shares how Canada is astonished the United States pulled out of the World Health Organization during a Global Pandemic. It’s very enlightening to hear about the disheartening COVID-19 pandemic differences from our neighbors to the north.
