Did you know there are “villages” throughout Montgomery County that provide residents ages 55+ with services and social activities? MMC-TV sat down with Jack Leary, the President of the Board of Directors of the Villages of Kensington, to learn about these volunteer-led, membership-based organizations. They foster social connections through activities like book clubs, monthly luncheons, and walking groups. And for those in the “aging in place” stage of their lives, they can receive volunteer help at home using a neighbor helping neighbor model. This help involves volunteers driving members to appointments, doing small home repairs, walking dogs, and other day-to-day tasks.
Currently, there are around fifty villages in the DC metro region. Find a village near you, start a new village, or contact the Village Coordinator for more information.
