GB Youth Media acknowledges the historic verdict in the Chauvin case, which holds an individual accountable for murder. We know that to arrive to this point took an enormous amount of work and courage, facing threats and attacks to their safety, in the Black communities, and especially George Floyd’s family. We are grateful and yet still anguished that our brothers and sisters are being killed by government employees nearly everyday.
Justice is a world where George Floyd is still alive.
Justice is a world where Ma’Kiah Byrant is still alive.
Justice is a world where Duante Wright is still alive.
Justice is a world where James Johnson and Dominique Williams are still alive.
Sincerely, Anna Danielson and Lisa Middleton, GBYM

#SHOWUP for Racial Injustice
Activism Through The Media Arts
High school students and young adults in the DMV are exhibit uncomfortable, yet necessary discussions on several key social justice issues such as gun violence, income gap, Black Lives Matter, climate change, women’s rights, and LGBTQ+ rights. Ismael Oates is a participating artist from Silver Spring, MD. Through his art he would like to challenge the meaning of what it means to be an American of African decent. His art is his tool to shed light on the history of African American culture in an inventive way.
