Dr. David Doman is back with a new episode of Housecall featuring Dr. Aaron Fond–a Gastroenterologist based in Montgomery County, Maryland. Dr. Fond brings his expertise on Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD). PUD is a condition where the lining of the stomach is damaged by stomach acid or pepsin, creating an open sore called a peptic ulcer. The most common symptom is a gnawing or stabbing pain in the middle of stomach, and in severe cases a person may see blood in their vomit or stool. PUD is often caused by certain over-the-counter pain medications, or an infection with helicobactor pylori. Treatment entails prescription drugs that lower the acidity in the stomach.
Dr. Fond also discusses cancerous PUD, heartburn, and Barrett’s Esophagus (when stomach acid affects the lining of the lower esophagus). Watch to learn more, and find Dr. Fond at these practice locations.
