There’s still time to celebrate Women’s History Month in Montgomery County. Women’s History Month originated in 1981 as Women’s History Week when Congress passed L.97-28. After five years of Congress passing joint resolutions designating a week in March as Women’s History week, the National Women’s History Project petitioned Congress to designate the month of March 1987 as Women’s History Month. Congress passed additional resolutions between 1988 and 1994 requesting the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, presidents have issued annual proclamations designating March as Women’s History Month. These proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.
The Montgomery County Commission for Women is partnering with Montgomery County Public Libraries and Friends of the Library to put on the 7th Annual Girl Power Contest. You can flex your creative muscles and submit a story, poem, drawing or medium of your choice between now and March 31, 2024.
