It will help maintain a good range of movements, and strengthen the muscles and ligaments around the hips, so it is more elastic.
Robin starts with overall body warmups that include somethings for the hips.
Follow along and experiment with different movements once you are in a posture. Just see how you feel in that posture, really enjoy your experience in the posture, and let yourself be accustomed to it, so that you are focusing on your body and breath, it all coming together, and integrating all of your energies.
