This weekend Que Pasa Host Betty Valdes interviews Eric Lopez, Senior Attorney with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition, regarding recent changes to the asylum law. They discuss two recent Trump administration rules attempting to prohibit asylum to a) migrants who entered the U.S. between ports of entry, and b) migrants who did not pursue asylum in a third country before entering the U.S.
They also discuss lawsuits challenging these attacks on asylum brought by their organization and their partners, as well as other changes on immigration policy. Additionally, Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for countries like El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Nepal and Sudan will end January 2, 2020, and the Coalition and their partners are preparing to request an extension.
