Have you been eating the wrong foods at the wrong time of year or at the wrong temperature and could be the cause to an unbalanced body?
This episode of Happy & Healthy learn about Ayurveda, India’s ancient medical system founded over 4000 years ago and still effectively used today world wide from Amita Jain, Doctor of Ayurveda at Vedic Health. Ayurveda is based on the holistic concept that mind affects the body, body affects the mind, and every input into our mind and body via our senses has an impact on us, either negative or positive. Every sensory input leads us toward balance or imbalance, controlled by the energies within us. Disease begins when there is imbalance anywhere.
We are exposed to the elements with the climate, environment, and the universe around you. During the Fall or Winter the qualities are cold, light, dry, rough and when exposed to it you begin to experience these properties yourself. When you eat these qualities it will lead to things like dry hair, extra dry skin, bloating, diarrhea, joint pain, anxiety, focus problems…The connection between the food we eat, the environment we are in, the activities we partake in, all effects us and is all connected.
During the Fall and Winter you should eat cooked, warm nourishing food not raw, cold food. You still will get the same nutritional value because it can be digested better. Your digestive system tend to be weaker in the Fall/Winter climate, so warm food digest more efficiently. Spices also help digest food and makes you more energetic. Cumin, Turmeric, Garlic, Onion, and Ginger are good for digestion. Ginger is very powerful spice and helps with digestion, inflammation, and joint pain. If you change your eating habits you could potentially see a change in days to weeks depending on whats your ailments.
