Montgomery County touts its diversity as its strength, but for too long, Black voices in the county have not been meaningfully platformed. Our opinions, thoughts and ideas are too often left out of the conversation in council meetings, local media and civic engagements. BCEE Media, which is the media arm of The Black Coalition For Excellence In Education (BCEE) responsible for producing Rooted & Rising, is striving to change that status quo by insisting that Black-led and Black-focused media have an equal seat at the table.
Rooted & Rising is a community-centric TV show that spotlights Black perspectives, conversations and insights.
Rooted & Rising is our monthly show where we explore Black life, explain critical structural dynamics, report on local news and celebrate Black joy. Each episode has a central theme and is broken up into various segments such as Call to Clarity (our hot take opener), What Had Happened… (our current events segment), Black Joy Spotlight (our way of elevating victories from across Black Montgomery County), Closing Prayer (our show closer) and more.
We believe that the power is with the people, and our show is meant to spark thoughts, inspire and empower Black people in Montgomery County. Our approach to the show is rooted in critical thinking, expertise and analysis, but also imbued with humanity, humor and authenticity.
